This series is a showcase of salty souls with soft hearts and strong minds. It will tell the tales of incredible women around the world and their connection to the ocean. But first, I will tell you my story...
My name is Amber, I'm 23 years old and I'm the founder of Water Baby Jewellery. I have been in love with the ocean for as long as I can remember. When I was younger my mum used to call me a water baby as I was always happiest in the water. Not much has changed.
Growing up I was never a sporty person however at 16 years old I made a last-minute decision to study outdoor adventure at college. This is where I fell in love with watersports. I quickly became a sailing and windsurfing instructor which then enabled me to work abroad for many years. Thanks to covid, that lifestyle came to a sudden end.
Whilst trying to adjust to a new simple way of life I discovered jewellery making. I fell in love with the art of creating and the community that formed when I began sharing it with the world. Over time my jewellery has changed and evolved however there is one thing that remains the same; my inspiration, the ocean.
I can never seem to stay away from the shoreline for long. I feel at peace in the presence of the waves and I am in awe of the power the ocean holds. Although being near the water brings me joy, being on/in it is a feeling like no other. Windsurfing, sailing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, wing-surfing, sea swimming, kitesurfing, scuba-diving and wakeboarding. A small list of ocean activities I've tried. Those close to me will know I enjoy some more than others but somehow they all have the power to bring me out of the day-to-day worries of life and back home to myself.
My aim with this series is to create a strong sense of community and inspire more women to utilise the power of the ocean.
